Hand Painted Silk Banners
Under Marietta Dantonio-Fryer's direction 19 hand painted silk banners were created. Participants were women suffering from AIDS, at-risk youth, African American and Asain American youth as well as Native American Indians going through social discriminations and women suffering social prejustices because they are
lesbians. Also participating in the project are survivors of physical
and/or sexual abuse or mental disorders.
Marietta worked with students from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, Native Americans, students from the Red Rock, Pennsylvania Job Corps facility and
women incarcerated in the Delaware prison system.
The silk banners were created in 2001 and went on to be part of the "Breaking The Walls Of Bias: Art From Survivors" Exhibit at Hofstra University's Emily Lowe Gallery in Hempstead, New York. The exhibit ran April 16 through August 2, 2002.
