"Seasons of Change"
A butterfly shaped silk painting project designed by Marietta Dantonio-Fryer in 1999 to bring together young and old so the youth of America can learn what it means to grow older.
Visiting retirement homes and senior citizen centers throughout the Wilmington, Delaware area, Professor Dantonio-Fryer and the Arts Honor Society students from her Dantonio Art Center School created this wonderful silk painting to help
educate the students about our aging society.

The idea behind the project was to have the students work with the seniors to create small sections of the silk painting that described each of their lifes stories and what it meant to them to grow old. On the body of the butterfly a picture of each senior citizen was placed and on the wings was placed the artwork of their story.
The Honor Society students worked with and mentored the seniors
to help turn their stories into art.

Pure silk fabric was stretched over a wooden frame in the shape of a butterfly and the background images and designs were then painted onto it. The individual pieces of silk painted art along with the pictures were then attached to the main body.
